Chrysler has confirmed that it plans to sell a hybrid version of its Dodge Ram pick-up truck in 2010. The announcement comes on the back of earlier news that the company will roll out hybrid versions of its Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen SUVs this summer.

The company has also indicated that it will offer an even wider range of hybrids in the near future. Speaking at this year's SAE International world congress, product development chief Frank Klegon said, “We are going to need to expand our hybrid offerings and we are doing that, we just haven’t announced which specific vehicles are going to show up beyond the truck.”

He also said that the Ram SUV will use a similar hybrid system to the one used in the Durango and Aspen models. This means that it’s likely to be based on a nickel battery, linked to a larger four-cylinder engine and capable of speeds up to 70MPH.

After several years of Hybrid SUV dominance by European and Japanese auto companies, it’s encouraging to see some signs of a fight back from US manufacturers. Let’s hope this healthy competition extends to smaller, more affordable cars soon.

That's great that more efficient trucks are being created...It's still so big that the driver will end up almost hitting me on my bicycle commute.

I want my Hybrid Minivan

Even when trying to go green, Auto makers still seeks to satisfy American's craze for gas guzzling big trucks and SUVs joy toys. Meanwhile, essential vehicles such as mid-size sedans and minivans are no where to be seen in the hybrid release plans. Many of my friends with young families said they would snatch up a Hybrid Minivan if there was one. Until then, they are going with Japanese minivans. Here's the perfect opportunity for Chrysler or Ford or even GM to take the first crack.

This is a nice blog about Dodge ram. I using my Dodge truck last 8 year it such like a nice pickup truck after reading your blog comment i really happy and now i think about 2010 Dodge Ram truck when Chrysler sell. But i want more information on Dodge truck.

well sounds nice, but when you pull a trailer, and live in the mountains, hybrids just dont cut it. Not all Americans live in the city where they drive a few miles to work. Would love to see a hybrid truck plow my driveway, tow my work trailer, or climb my mtn. One day they will figure it out, but for now my 400 hp struggles with the trailer and mtn/
