Microsoft has a new partner for its Hohm software: Ford Motor Co. The two companies are pairing up to outfit Ford's electric vehicles with Hohm's energy management tools.
The partnership will allow the EV drivers to charge their cars in a more affordable and responsible way, lessening the strain on the grid during peak hours and allowing the utilities to better cope with the demands of EVs as they become more commonplace. Smart grid tools are necessary for electric cars to be successful, so integrating this type of energy management software right into the car is a great step by Ford.
The software will be installed in future all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from Ford, beginning with the all-electric Ford Focus in 2011. Ford and Microsoft will also be working with individual utilities and cities to bring together what they're calling the "entire energy ecosystem."

Yet another reason to never ever ever ever buy a Ford.

Why should Ford partner with the largest software company in the world. It's not like they revolutionized computers as we know it. Surely they are could find a more reputable company.

Yes, every big company has had some P-R failures, and the largest, most dominant software company in the world has had it's shares, too. But, Ford and Microsoft might make a good team.
Granted, though, anywhere there's code, there will be bugs. I just hope they are minimal, and not cause runaway charging. Hopefully, there will be hardware safeguards, too.

It is to be hoped that Ford will go out of business this decade. The world needs decent innovative motor vehicles which are affordable and reliable which Ford and Microsoft are incapable of supplying.
Chinese automobiles will one day rule the roads of America, running Chinese control software, using Chinese design automobile computer and in-car entertainment provided by Chinese media player using Chinese standards.
Ford recently sold Volvo to Gheely China. Volvo as you know was a superior design heavy duty automobile car designed in Sweden. Ford was incapable of looking after it when they bought Volvo.

I have developed a new process for thermoelectric modules, we produce power at ambient temperatures, we have a cell phone that has operated in a continuous mode for over 2 years, we tested a unit on a Toyota hybrid made 4700 miles without plugging in or running the gas engine, as well we have perfected a process to put the units on silicon. Our big issue has been funding a start-up, everyone wants to own control of the technology. We can power anything from a wrist watch to a small city with no fuels, no hazardous materials and no emissions, simply on conversion of the ambient temperature to power. When and if we find a financial partner we will hit the market and power everything from a watch to a city.

I can't understand why Ford has chosen Microsoft, and not some free software instead. And I'm not sure about the effectivness of Hohm. I'm not using anything like that, counting on myself to have low electricity bills.

Ford builds some of the better cars in this county and around the world.They are by no means perfect but compared with GM,Chrysler,Fiat,Citroen, Jaguar and any thing from China and India they are by far a better product.Yes I know that Ford owned Jaguar and Volvo, and both companies were failing at the time Ford bought them.If any one recalls Jaguar was second to last in problems only to YUGO.Now look at Jaguar. We are lucky to have Ford as a chose. Holms from Microsoft I don't have any comments but Microsoft products are terrible and cheap.The energy management system for charging on the grid doesn't need high tech programing. Just go and by timer switch from the hardware store,then figure out how to hook it up to the charging station.
