European Union Plans to Eliminate Gas-Fueled Vehicles by 2050

A report from the European Union's European Commission branch reveals a plan to remove gas and diesel-fueled cars from the continent's cities by 2050.

The plan describes a "single European transport area" where the gas-fueled vehicles are gradually phased out and replaced with alternatively-fueled cars and where new infrastructure will be constructed to cater to these vehicles. The transition would cost upwards of $2 trillion.

The proposed plan also calls for a ban on the shortest flights and that rail travel should be required for trips more than 186 miles.

While the architects of the plan themselves refer to it as "very radical" and "very ambitious," it's still a plan that is looking four decades into the future. By then, the idea may seem like a rather safe solution.

Increasing CO2 with hot air

I guess it makes me feel better to know European politicians waste as much time as American Politicians. It is good to have a starting point, but a 40 year technology plan is ridiculous. Maybe vehicles will be limited to 640K of RAM too.

Its totally necessary

What this does is set a market signal to its own manufacturers and the world where they are going. It props up investors and gives them confidence in the green investment direction. They also have classified tar sands from Cananda as a high co2 fuel. A 2 trillion dollar investment is only 50 billion per year for the next 40 years. Its actually peanuts.

Isn't it nice to know some countries care? Here we are arguing over 22 mpg or 25 mpg,an we are out of gas.Doesn't matter how MPGs the care gets out of fuel is out of fuel. any amount Divided or multiplied by zero is still zero. What is so hard to understand about that? Wen i was in Navy we bombed the hell out of Nam They are building a high speed rail we have 30 mph Amtrak See the progress we can make Congress knows who to pay off.

A good idea from Europe

Given the fact that oil deposits are not showing up as they used to, this idea from the government of the European Union makes a whole lot of sense. We should move in the same direction in the United States.

They plan to do a lot of things (live in EU) but the fail at most just say i take things with a pill of salt speaking of which there lots of being storage with not were to go in the EU right next to the Olive Oil
