GM has officially inserted the Volt into its production schedule which means that the car could be in dealerships as early as 2010. They're doing it...for real, they're making this car.
For those of you who are out of the loop, the Volt is what's now officially being called a 'series hybrid.' These are cars that are 100% electrically driven, but that have on-board generators that re-charge the battery. The generator can run on gasoline biodiesel, ethanol, or hydrogen. It looks like GM is planning on creating two versions for the first round of production, a hydrogen fuel cell version, apparently for the Chinese market, and a gasoline version, for us here in America.
We've heard mumbled conversations about the price and it looks like GM is definitely willing to take a loss to get these out on the streets. We're hoping the gas version will come in under 30k, but no guarantees. The Volt, after all, is a Chevy, so they can't make it too pricey.

again car companies give us crap and will continue to give us crap. how about a car that runs on water? the technology is very simple and has been out for more then 50 to 100 years . or a car that runs on ambient energy, tesla made one almost 100 years ago, never even had to be charged. car companies now could even design gas engines to get at least 100 mpg. but they dont and never will.
