I wonder if snow could be made behind the screen using equipment designed for ski resorts? Capture the first snow melt of the season and pump it back up to be made into fresh powder, which might also increase the natural reflectivity of the glaciers exposed to pollution. Not an answer, but it may slow the glacier's retreat until we can get GHG under control

This concept has already been covered in the past. This would definitely not be a cost effective approach to the problem of global warming.

I think that to get green house gasses under control, we as a human race need to stop breathing and farting. Oh and cows too.

I can't believe people still fall for this global warming rubbish. Between January 2007 and January 2008, the temp of this planet fell by .07c. How the hell is that warming. Wake up people, realise the lies before it's too late.

The so called scientist behind this project is little more than a fake with no credentials in glacier research.

Wow people still believe that global warming is a lie... Just because the presidents "experts" say that global warming is a lie doesn't make it true, in fact it makes it seem more plausible. .7c is nothing for humans but globally its an enormous change. We don't notice a change like that because we have developed and evolved into a species that can adapt very well, unfortunately many other species are not so lucky, especially when there home is on the ice that is melting.

How come every eco geek story has negative commentary and no constructive criticism? It would be better to keep it to yourself I think. (See, negative comment with what to do better.)

how could you even think it's not true based on the planets temperature falling? just what exactly do you think is melting my friend? it's thousands of tons of ICE but when it melts and trickles into the ocean doesn't mean it becomes luke warm, it's still freaking freezing cold, cooling the oceans in general therefore cooling the overall temperature of the planet. That is how the planet stabilises itself. Once the planet's climate reaches a point of another ice age, where it's so cold that pretty much everything is frozen it will start the process all over again which is gona take another billion years of warming up, until the ice melts cooling the planet off etc.

if large areas were covered with aluminum foil, significant amounts of radiant energy would be reflected into space, alleviating somewhat the global warming. The best places for this, maximizing its cooling effect, would be high in the tropics, though covering most of Greenland would help a lot ;)

We were there visiting the Rhone glacier cave walk whilst on holiday with my kids and we saw what it looked to me like students fiddling about some structures further out in the ice .I didn't know they were making the news .That's cool ,even got some shots of them .

I don't really buy for the negative comments here .With the evidence our glaciers are melting whether it's due to human activities enhanced phenomenon or by natural changes of global temperature patterns and we are only in the beginning of the big changes about to happen .As a resident of this planet earth we can only try to experiment of things we think are benificial to our main interest of survival in this planet as a whole . If there's no people that are able to think and try on things , then same as there should be no future of medicine as we are enjoying now . We could perhaps still be using chloroform as anesthetic .Imagine that ,eh .

So people who said some mockery of this expirement done should just shut up if you can't do anything that is positive for this planet than deliver some negative criticisms against.
