Superconductors Part II: 10 MW Wind Turbines?



We told you last week about American Superconductor, Inc – the company that is trying to revolutionize the power grid by developing superconductors to deliver more power, more efficiently, through smaller wires.

in my hometown (Hamburg, Germany), the second of two 6MW Wind Turbines is being set up at the moment. The first one went up last month. Search for "windkraft hamburg altenwerder" in Google Photos to see pictures.

"...one behemoth." One behemoth does not a wind farm make. Your argument implies that the construction and maintenance costs per kwh for an entire farm will be more than 6.7 times as much per 10 MW turbine than for a 1.5 MW turbine. Considering the higher wind speeds and energy densities available at greater heights...
