Maine Constructing 4 MW Commercial Tidal Power Project

Tidal power is one of the renewable energy sources that you hear the cialis pfizer canada least about even though its potential for generating electricity is cialis professional sale incredibly vast. The problem is that deploying turbines out into the ocean or rivers can prove to sws-bl.com be awfully tricky. But one major project is moving full steam ahead and http://www.wowgraphicdesigns.com/viagra-in-australia-for-sale will be delivering power by this fall.

The Maine Tidal Energy Project started construction of the bottom support frame for Ocean Renewable Power Company's TidGen turbine generator system in March. The project's first phase will see five of those generators deployed in the Gulf of generic propecia effective Maine with a capacity of 900 kW. That phase should be online by October.

The complete project will reach a capacity of 4 MW and already has 20-year power purchase agreements with Bangor Hydro, CMP and Maine Public Service.

The TidGen system consists of slowly rotating foils that power a permanent magnet generator at its center. It is gearless and made from composite materials that won't corrode underwater.

Tidal power is the technology we hear least about on ecogeek because ecogeek usually publishes lots of light fluff.

Tidal power makes lots of economic sense because the majority of populations live close to seashores and it is endlessly renewable. It would also be compatible with off-shore wind turbines, one providing power while the other was idle as in slack tides and windless days.smilies/grin.gif

I'd like to see more use made of tides in rivers, as well as banks of solar panels 'floating' on rivers - reducing the evaporation of the water whilst producing power.
