Renault has just launched a new initiative that will ensure a relatively small environmental impact during production, use and disposal. The cars will be labeled eco2 and they will be appearing in all of Renault's classes.
In order to be eco2 compliant, the vehicle has to be produced in a factory that is ISO 1400-certified (basically ensuring continuous decrease in environmental impacts.) The cars have to be extremely fuel efficient producing less than 140g of carbon per kilometer. And 5% of the plastics in the car must be recyclable.
It seems to me like they could have done a bit better on that last number. However, by recognizing every part of their vehicle's life cycle with this new standard, Renault really is going further than any other automobile company.

I took a look at the ISO certificate hanging on our office wall, and it says "ISO14001: 2004".
