Luxury Hybrid to be Available in 2009  E-mail

According to a company press release, it looks as though the Fisker luxury plug-in hybrid will be introduced at the upcoming Detroit Auto Show in January 2008. Reports also indicate that the Fisker Automotive vehicle will be available to buyers in 2009.

Fisker Automotive will offer a range of environmentally friendly premium cars – with the first production car to make its Worldwide North American debut at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show in January. Initial production is anticipated to be 15,000 vehicles annually with pricing to start under $100,000.

While the $100,000 puts it out of the reach of most of us, it still shows that the plug-in hybrids are coming, and are coming from several different directions.

Benefits in developing an entirely new, from-the-ground-up design for a plug-in hybrid vehicle include optimized fuel efficiency and performance, unchanged gas station infrastructure, home based battery recharging with any 110-volt outlet at a fraction of the cost. A cleaner and a quieter car for local travel... all with the most advanced comforts that are anticipated with a luxury car.

It will be interesting to see how a startup company such as this fares versus existing hybrids like the Toyota Prius or forthcoming plug-in hybrids from major automakers like the Chevy Volt. Will the current Prius-owning crowd move toward the more luxury models like the Fisker? Or will the lower-cost Volt become the next flagship environmentally responsible vehicle? As these vehicles start to come to market, we'll continue to watch and see how they develop.

Of course, the real effect of hybrids will be that we will be able to afford bigger cars.

You can only pay with credit card or wire transfer/check! and the cars price is $ 80,000. This car is intended to start a wave of cool green cars. The bigger car companies have to make the cheaper mass market ones!
Good Luck

Well good luck to this new company. Rich people need to drive fuel efficient cars too, so it makes sense to have luxury cars in the market as well. smilies/smiley.gif
I hope they really make it

I really hope they do make this car. It will put a TON of pressure on other luxury car makers to bring high mileagle hybrids that look great. BMW keeps touting their pathetic active hybrid but if you read on the goal is a 20% in mpg. On a typical BMW that 3-4MPG so you end up at 20-25MPG max. I have an 06 M5 and I can't WAIT to get my hands on this Fisker and then send an email to BMW saying I'll trade in the Fisker when they build a REAL efficient sports car. Keep your fingers cross that this car and the company are a success!!
