Chrysler ecoVoyager Fuel Cell Concept  E-mail

Chrysler hit hard with environmental concepts at this year's Detroit Auto Show. We've already showed you the REEV Jeep Renegade. There was actually a trio of announcements, one eco-car for each of their green brands.

The ecoVoyager is a fuel cell REEV (the batteries are charged by a hydrogen fuel cell stack instead of an internal combustion engine) so, right off the bat, it's farther in the future than the Renegade's technology.

The ecoVoyager seems to have been designed with Applephiles in mind. White interior with subtle accents, most controls are hidden or out of the way for a very simplistic but functional look. So yeah, it's hard not to dig something so sleek, simple, and aerodynamic. Especially when the only thing coming out of the tailpipe is water.

See more at Chrysler

Note: GM paid for my hotel and travel to the Detroit Auto Show.

Hydrogen as a fuel is pretty much just a bunch of wishful thinking, theres more attractive and efficient possibilities that are technologically (if not yet economically) feasible now.

In fact I know how much some people disparage diesel, but thats probably the only environmentally and economically feasible fuel out there right now and probably will be until either cellulosic ethanol makes it or some of the new wind technologies in conjunction with new battery technology does.

Everything has a drawback.

Well, what about diesel? A friend of mine just bought a diesel Jetta and claims to get 45 miles per gallon.

That sounds pretty good to me. That's not too different than my mother gets with her Prius.
