I don’t know about your state, but here in California, drivers only have one more month to get all the hands-free devices they need because come July, talking on a cell phone while driving is grounds for a ticket and a stink eye from highway patrollers.

For all you Bluetooth users or soon-to-be Bluetooth converts, LG has a greener solution: the Solar Bluetooth Car Kit. Mount this light-weight box to your windshield and you’re good to go…and talk. Holding enough charge for 16 hours of talk time, the kit can get 1 hour of talk time for every 2 hours of exposure. Plastic clasps keep the box angled at the sun so you can careen around corners without loosing light. And say you do have to sit through a storm and need some juice, there is the old-fashioned cigarette lighter charger option. Plus, with it only weighing 72 oz, you can move it from car to car.

However, Californians, and indeed most Americans, are going to have to wait a bit, since this kit is only being released in Europe for £55-£65. I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before it’ll be available at your local big box electronics store.

The few problems I can foresee with this product is with the producing and need for these devices. Does the solar bluetooth use more energy and pollute more than a regular one? Does a regular bluetooth really use enough energy to offset the wasted energy of the solar one? And couldn't people save time, money, and energy by simply not talking on the phone while driving? I ultimately think this product is for people who want a cool gizmo and are only "green" until another fad comes along for them to mindlessly join.

Have a look at your web stats and you'll find half of your readers don't live in a state. DARPA may have invented it but these days the internet doesn't stop at the US border, try and keep that in mind.
