The unit watt already has a "per second" implied in it. If my laptop's energy consumption is 10 W, it means it takes 10 joules per second to operate. That's why power plants' output is typically measured in watts rather than watts per second: 200 MW means that every second, the plant generated 200 MJ.

I believe that I'd read that the London Underground had something like this installed on some stairs.
I work for a large hospital and suggested to some of our designers that we incorporate something like this. I'd love to know 1. the cost for materials 2. how much higher for retrofit over new construction (depending on thickness and surrounding materials, etc). 3. life expectancy of materials 4. necessary infrastructure (ie, power storage and grid tie-in). Very promising and I can't believe Piezo Elements have taken so long to be applied in such a manner.
