Wal-Mart: Always Green Products...Always  E-mail

Well maybe not products, but at least electronics. In keeping with its Sustainability 360 initiative, Wal-Mart has announced that its electronic suppliers will have to fill out scorecards indicating the environmental impact of its products. These score cards cover “energy efficiency, durability, upgradability, end-of-life solutions”, packaging and the use of non-toxic chemicals. These scorecards will be used by Wal-Mart and made available to shoppers in order to help them make green decisions when buying electronics.

As the world’s largest retailer, everything they do has a humongous impact. With every step Wal-Mart takes, an army marches along behind it. Already Wal-Mart has taken steps to use more renewable energy and encourage fluorescent light bulbs. If suppliers change their ways for Wal-Mart, it is likely they will sell the greener products at other, if not all, stores too.

Green PC's are back in vogue, this means OEM's are going to ditch high end power zapping heat wrenching components just to get on the store shelf.

Great to see, maybe now AMD and NV and so on will start to crap themselves and focus more on power usage and cooler componennts, today we are targeting 1kWatt PSUs, thats more than my fridge/freezer, i mean seriously WTF!

Laptops are hitting 150 watts, up from 40 ish.

Somebody needs to put a leash on these AMD and Nvidia companies and push them to focus on these issues.

Big name stores can do this, which account for the MAJORITY of PC sales.
