![]() The world's largest collection of Geeks is (no surprise here) now the first community where the Toyota Prius outsells any other car. Dealerships are selling more than 1,500 Prius' per month. This probably would have happened sooner, but this is the first time since launch when there was no waiting list for hybrids in the Valley. We assume that the brains of silicon valley are trend setters and that we should expect hybrid sales to boom across the country next. OK, maybe that assumption has a little bit of hope built in as well. But as more pure-hybrid models hit dealerships, I think we'll see hybrids truly taking hold in the market. Via TreeHugger

Toyota Prius Does not Make Econonmic or

The Prius gas mileage is barely better than a similar-sized and much less complicated Toyota Corolla, and the environmental footprint just to manufacture all the high-tech wizardry and especially the batteries is higher than a Hummer H2, not to mention the disposable problems these cars have when they've reached the end of their life. The Prius is just a fashion statement.

I drive a used (2005) Prius I bought 3 months ago. I drive for a living aprox. 100 miles a day sometimes 180 a day. I am getting awsome gas mileage (46 to 52 mpg/tank)and saving money at the pump. I bought it because it was the best way I could afford to drive "green". As far as I know, there isn't anything "greener" in that price range. I am aware of an all electric sports care that sells for $92,000 and that George Clooney owns one. Given the options, I think Prius is the responsible way to go.

Science, technology gadgets and...baby seals. We're in a bit of an eco-mess, but we've got the brains to lick any problem. And that's why EcoGeek.org publishes up to ten stories daily about innovations that are saving the planet.
And if that sounds interesting to you, then congratulations, you're an EcoGeek.
I would love to see a better looking hybrid.
