Not only is Pope Benedict the first pope to comment on the "unbalanced use of energy" in the world, but now he's really pushing for green cred with the installation of a 2,400-panel solar PV array atop Nervi Hall.
The project cost $1.6 million and is expected to generate about 300 MWh per year. The energy will light, heat or cool Nervi Hall, an auditorium used when the pope speaks to general audiences. When the building is not in use, the energy will be fed into Vatican City's grid.
The project was funded by German companies SolarWorld and SMA Solar Technology and will prevent the emission of 200 tonnes of CO2 every two weeks.
While the Vatican remains conservative on most issues, this pope has been willing to speak on topics usually considered off-limits. It's a great sign that the environmental crisis is being recognized as a global, human crisis, regardless of religious or political affiliation.

Brian, "The Vatican is going to be powered by heaven." What, are you 5 years old?
But seriously, for a such religious body to endorse science (first climate change, then photovoltaics) is hypocricy in the first order. I guessing they've essentially been backed into a corner.

So, in this spirit, to Habitoid and Kris I say:
Fuck you, you fucking fuck.

After the millions of murders, and $650 billions of dollars, borrowed from our children’s futures and pissed away, with thousands of our own and others maimed and disfigured for life, millions of families utterly destroyed, ours and theirs, we are no closer to Iraqi oil production than the Iraqis are!
The next time you hear a blithering idiot spoiled brat, drunken, drug addicted, sociopath, rich Arabic saber dancing daddie’s boy oilman, stand at a microphone and threaten YOUR safety with someone ELSE’S weapons, remember what you lost America, remember, and weep! Yes, it does seem a little lax that offensive posts such as yours aren't moderated appropriately.
I find it strange that you would compare my post to the final sentence of yours. All I was saying is that for a religious body such as the Vatican (who are muddle-headed about almost every scientific endeavor) to begin endorsing the fruit of the labor of those who are often considered an affront to religion is total hypocricy. That is all.
As for Brian's comment, I personally found it offensive to not only myself but the entire human race. This blog is about technology and the environment. His comment had nothing to say about either. Regardless, it was clearly infantile and I sincerily hope he is about 5 years old since that is where that kind of naive romanticism should stay.
Good day.
